The Battle to Look Younger

adminchiaWhat's Happening at The Anti Ageing Clinic

In today’s society it is a full time job looking and trying to feel younger.

We are constantly bombarded with images of slim, wrinkle free celebrities who manage to look stunning all the time.

Although it is not possible to stop the ageing process, it is possible to slow it down.

How? That is the million dollar questions that I am asked every day as the owner of an Anti Ageing Clinic.

I do not have a magic wand to make all my clients instantly younger but I do have a proven record of helping my clients to look and feel 10 years younger with the help of some good treatments, skincare and common sense advice.

Everyone has the ability to make themselves look and feel younger and with a positive attitude and some hard work even the ravages of time can be defeated.

These are my six steps to turning back the clock and defying genetics-

  1. Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate……

Your skin is the largest organ in the body and needs water to carry out all its essential functions. Without water the skin would dehydrate, look slack and tired and it is the biggest cause of ageing that I come across everyday.

Imagine your skin as a peach, all lovely and moist and full of juice.

Now imagine if you take out that juice, the skin of the peach will wrinkle and dehydrate making it loose, dull and like a prune.

Do you want to be a peach or a prune?

So drink plenty of water everyday and hydrate your skin with a good serum such as Pevonia C Complex or Propolis concentrate followed by a good moisturiser to hold in that layer of water and leave your skin plump and healthy.

  1. Protect, Protect, Protect,

The skin has a protective layer called the acid mantle which protects the skin from any harmful chemicals, UV light and pollution. All of these things can cause free radicals which will attack the skin cells and slow down the repairing process of our healthy skin.

It is essential that you wear an SPF everyday not just when you go on holiday.
Most good quality moisturisers have an SPF or 15 or more and can be worn everyday under your make up for protection from UV light.

Most sun damage is done when we are younger and appears later on in life as pigmentation or age spots. Preventation is better than cure. And it is our responsibility to protect and educate our children on the effects of the sun. Always look for an SPF that contains Titanium Dioxide as this is a good quality ingredient that will reflect the suns rays’ way from the skin.

I recommend Pevonia SPF 30 every day and the Pevonia Care creams all contain SPF 15 for a lighter coverage.

  1. Treat, Treat, Treat…….

Your skin will age if you don’t look after it. So it is essential that you have your skin type professionally identified. This is not your expertise and a skin therapist will be able to recommend you a daily routine which will save you a fortune in buying the wrong products and having reactions to things you buy in a store.

Always invest in your skin, you only have one skin and it has to last you a lifetime so look after it now!

Don’t just buy a cream because your friend uses it or says it’s nice, go to an expert for a consultation and get the right products for your skin type.

Professional skincare products are better quality taht what you would buy in a store and far less expensive than you think, your skin is worth it!

Everyone should be on a daily routine which takes 5 minutes in the morning and 5 minutes in the evening to reap the benefits and to slow the aging process down.

Cleanse and tone- proper cleaning is essential for good skin.

Active Serum– essential for feeding the skin and for fighting free radical damage.

Moisturiser– An essential product for all skin types to keep the skin moist and plump.

Eye product– the skin around the eyes is very thin and needs its own product to prevent crow’s feet and puffiness.

  1. Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate………

I don’t mean scrub, scrub, and scrub.

If you use a harsh scrub, it will sensitise the skin and could cause broken veins later on. Do not use anything that scratches the skin.

Once or twice a week it is important to exfoliate the skin. This process takes off dead skin cells that lie on the surface of the skin and make the face look dull and will block the pores and not allow your products to penetrate effectively.

Gentle exfoliation will give the skin a healthy glow and allow the new cells underneath to come to the surface.

There are many exfoliaters on the market but I recommend a mild enzyme exfoliater such as Pevonia Enzyme peeling cream which uses the enzymes of pineapple and papaya to gentle eat away at the dead skin cells and leave the pores oil free and the skin radiant.

5. Eat, Eat, Eat……..

What you put into your body will fuel your skin? So if you eat lots of rubbish, your skin will look rubbish. If you eat healthily, your skin will look healthy etc.

We need good quality food to fuel our bodies and to fight off free radical damage which will affect our quality of life in the long term.

Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables as these contain anti oxidants which fight off free radicals.

Take a supplement of Vitamin C and collagen everyday.

I recommend taking Vitamin C in the morning to increase protection of the skin and for energy levels.

Proto Col Collagen supplements are fantastic for helping to replace the collagen in the skin and I recommend taking 2-3 at night as the first 90 minutes of sleep is when the skin is repairing itself.

6. Sleep. Sleep, sleep……….

Rest is essential for repairing your skin, so 8 hours a night is the recommend dose.

Sleeping curled up on your side will create wrinkles and creases on the side of the face. Try to lie on your back at night o avoid waking up with a wrinkled face. Also we recommend that you sleep on a silk or satin pillow case which is softer on your skin and prevents those cotton creases and puts less pressure on your face. This can affect your circulation and prevents eye puffiness. Sleeping on a silk pillow case is also great for your hair and will keep your hair style in place.

These 6 steps to slowing down the aging process will help you to achieve a more youthful skin and leave you looking and feeling 10 years younger.

Plastic Or Not Plastic

adminchiaWhat's Happening at The Anti Ageing Clinic

Plastic surgery is still growing strong in the world today, even though there are now many alternative therapies for us to consider.

According to the AAFPRS (the American Academy of facial plastic and reconstructive surgery) 84 percent of all facial surgical procedures including non-surgical procedures were performed on women as opposed to men last year (2009). So obviously it’s a “woman” thing, an anti ageing issue.

The most common operations were facelifts or rhytidectomy. Although plastic surgery is nothing new, after all it was used extensively in the wars, putting war torn soldiers back together, the cosmetic trend, and moreover facelifts,  as always, started in Hollywood and then spread out from there since the shoulder padded dynasty driven 80’s.

Over the last few years facial plastic surgery, among other operations, have become commonplace here in the UK. In Great Britain a facelift can cost anything between £4000 and £11000 depending on what clinic or surgery is performing it, and being ‘cosmetic’ rather than clinical the NHS is not an option for people.

So what the alternative to all this nipping and tucking? Or do we have to just let nature take its course?

There is now a machine called CACI. This is a non-surgical, electronic beauty treatment that lifts the face by toning facial muscles, like giving your face a good ‘workout’.  The process is painless and in fact quite relaxing according to people who have had the treatment. Thermage is another alternative using radiofrequency to firm up the skin. Some people use Acupuncture to tone their facial muscles, activating natural collagen in the process. No doubt the scientific world will come up with many more of these wonderful machines as time goes on, and there will always be demand for the bigger and better.

Pevonia products, night creams, anti wrinkle creams and gels are falling off the shelves in most major chemists and department stores, and they are not cheap for most people’s purses but still we feel the need to beat off father time. This may be all we need to do, creams and face packs with a little bit of choosing carefully what we eat and we’re looking great!

People have changed as the decades pass by. In the sixties and seventies, ladies in their late forties looked a lot older than they do these days, some are still working hard and playing even harder and know more about what they want. Everyone seems to look younger these days, our lifestyles demand it, our husbands say they don’t care but they always have an appreciation for the younger looking girls, they will never be able to hide it from us.

The TV commercial says to us “Because you’re worth it”.

Are we worth it? Is it ALL worth it?

I say, if it makes YOU feel good about YOURSELF, then you go girl! Do what you need to do.

Just make sure that when you hit the plastic, it’s for something that makes you feel fantastic!
